DV Vic and the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare have developed Working with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) training tailored for family violence practitioners, sexual assault practitioners and Family Safety Contacts in perpetrator services.

Delivered over two 120 minute modules, this free virtual training will support you to understand the NDIS and build your confidence to support victim survivors with disability navigate the NDIS. Attendees will also be introduced to a number of new practice tools related to the NDIS and family violence.

Who is this training for?

This training is for practitioners who work with victim survivors of family violence, including:

• Family violence practitioners working in family violence response, including:
• Local family violence support services, case management services (including those located at The Orange Door)
• Family violence accommodation services
• Family violence therapeutic support services
• Telephone crisis services
• Sexual assault practitioners working with victim survivors of sexual assault in the context of family violence
• Family Safety Contact within men’s behaviour change/perpetrator intervention service providers
• Specialist family violence services targeting diverse communities of victim survivors (such as LGBTIQ, culturally and linguistically diverse and Aboriginal victim survivors).

What will it cover?

• Introduction to working with victim survivors with disability and the NDIS
• Risk factors and protective factors in the context of the NDIS
• Engaging and advocating with different NDIS process with victim survivors

Facilitators

Keran Howe

Keran is a consultant for DV Vic. She was the Head of Social Work at Royal Women’s Hospital before being appointed the Executive Director of Women with Disabilities Victoria. As a person with a disability, she has advised government on policy reform to address issues related to women’s health, violence prevention and the rights of people with disabilities. She has been awarded the Centenary Medal and the Lesley Hall Lifetime Achievement Award for her work on behalf of people with a disability and is an inductee of the Victorian Women’s Honour Roll.

Mark Ryan

Mark is the Senior Trainer at the Centre for Excellence on Child and Family Welfare. He has developed and delivered NDIS training to more than 1,600 child and family service, child protection and care services practitioners since 2018 and currently co-delivers MARAM training for practitioners in the maternal child health, drug and alcohol, mental health, homelessness, Child First, Family Services, and Care Services workforces.
