Northern Family & Domestic Violence Service (NFDVS) Berry Street
Northern Family & Domestic Violence Service (NFDVS) is the specialist family violence service for the Northern Metropolitan region.
NFDVS provides a specialist family violence response to women & children who have experienced family violence across seven LGAs in the Northern Metropolitan Region, Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Moreland, Nillumbik Whittlesea & Yarra.
NFDVS Berry Street receives all police referrals related to women from that area, routinely does risk assessment and safety planning with women, provides court support at three courts hearing family violence intervention orders in our area: Broadmeadows, Heidelberg & Collingwood Neighbourhood Justice Centre.
NFDVS also has been the pilot site for the Hume Strengthening Risk Management (SRM) Project. NFDVS Berry Street has a 9-5 telephone intake service, case work team and coordinates NCARS, the 24 hour response to family violence in the Northern Metropolitan region, which is accessed by calling the 24 hour line of the statewide Women’s Domestic Violence Crisis Service. NFDVS also has a small child and mother counselling service called TURTLE.
Over 40% of NFDVS' client base are from culturally & linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. NFDVS works collaboratively with family violence teams from Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) and Elizabeth Hoffman House (EHH) Aboriginal Women's Services, 4-5% of NFDVS contacts in 2012-13 were with ATSI women & their children.
NFDVS programs are informed by a human rights & feminist principles and draw from trauma-informed, strength-based, child aware practices. NFDVS and has an equal opportunity exemption to employ all women staff.
